ŠERMÍŘI
Inspiration and Vision
Inspired by The Battle of Thermopylae, I wanted to capture the strength of body and spirit—a powerful contrast of aggression and gentleness. The image would show men in combat with an ethereal figure, my daughter Bára, floating among them. Her calm expression would stand against the determination of the fighters.
Creating the Scene
The setup took place in a 16m² pool area with a depth of 170 cm. With mirrors on the sides to create the illusion of more fighters, pond fabric on the floor to resemble earth, and dim lighting, we were able to achieve a haunting atmosphere. I added plants in one corner for additional depth.
The Sword Fighters and Preparations
"I met a group of professional swordsmen who eagerly joined this project. We practiced poses above water for safety, as they used real historical weapons. I sewed the capes, gathered costumes from the National Theater, and they brought their own helmets and swords."
Recognition
"This underwater project was both challenging and rewarding. In 2010, it earned me the Qualified European Photographer certification from the Federation of European Photographers."
